Happy New Year
To the Richmond Informer and the Richmond & Twickenham Times, 15th December 2008
Dear Sir
May I start by wishing all residents and local business owners a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
2008 has been difficult for all of us and unfortunately we end the year with an uncertain economic future. My heart goes out particularly to the employees of Woolworths and other businesses based in the area, whose job security and prospects are gloomy.
Despite the bleak economic outlook in the coming year, there is much to celebrate in the borough - our outstanding parks, beautiful river frontage and festive markets, none of which need to cost a fortune to enjoy.
I would also like to thank the residents of Twickenham, Whitton, The Hamptons, Teddington and St Margaret's for being so hospitable to me and sharing their problems and concerns over the last year. I look forwards to serving local residents with renewed vigour in 2009 and ensuring there is a strong alternative political voice to which anyone - no matter from which political persuasion can turn to for help and support.
