EU Referendum
I am strongly committed to the British people having a say on the Lisbon Treaty, which according to a cross-party Parliamentary Group and the German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, is “substantially” the same as the EU Constitution, which was previously rejected by the Irish, French and Dutch populations in their respective referenda.
Unfortunately, a motion to force a popular vote was rejected in Parliament after the Labour Party, and all but 13 LibDem MPs either voted against or abstained from meeting their manifesto commitments. Only the Conservatives kept their pledge to the British people.
Whenever people have been given a vote on the subject, they have consistently and overwhelmingly rejected further central interference from the EU bureaucracy.
The list of crossbench MPs can be found here. The address to write to is: The House of Lords, London SW1A 0PW. The correct mode of address is found here.
Please do write, as every pledge of support for a public vote makes a difference!
